Manchester United Football Club have today handed Marcus Rashford a new long-term contract at Old Trafford – with the boyhood Reds fan now set to stay until at least 2023.
It’s easy to forget that this boy is just 21 years of age, although it does feel as though he’s been around for decades already. Understandably, it took a fair while to thrash out his new contract but thankfully it’s all done before United jet out on pre-season tour on July 7th.
Since breaking through in the 2015/16 season, Rashford hasn’t looked back. He’s thrived under three different managers so far and hopefully, he’ll only improve over the next few years.
As you’d imagine, this news got people talking all over social media. For the majority, fans were thrilled that Rashford has signed a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams – although the view wasn’t echoed by everyone, with some angry at the weekly wage he’ll apparently be given…
I’m firmly in the happy camp. At the end of the day, United have made their bed with player wages by handing Alexis Sanchez a small-fortune per week, but if anyone deserves the money, it’s Rashford. Plus, it’s not coming out of my pocket so honestly, why should I care how much he takes home…?
As always, there were some fans who weren’t too happy with the new deal…
