Well well well, it seems as though Manchester United have a real player on their hands. After being made to sit out a few games, a certain left-back reminded everyone just how talented he is. Brandon Williams vs Burnley could go down as the game where Luke Shaw is firmly put on notice.
Honestly, this one really did come out of nowhere. We know that Williams is a supremely talented young man but I don’t think anyone expected him to make such an impact at the start of his Old Trafford career.
I was just in awe of the young man yesterday, which felt like his most accomplished first-team performance to date. Williams loves a scrap which is the perfect attribute to have when going to a notoriously physical away ground like Burnley.
He was a willing runner when bombing forward and trying to get involved in the attack and more often than not, Williams put some quality deliveries into the penalty area.
Positionally Williams barely put a foot wrong. For a teenager, this boy is so mature in terms of his footballing IQ and honestly, Shaw must be so worried at this point.
The question Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now must answer is whether he keeps the faith in Williams for a crunch game against Arsenal. It’s a tough one but for me, I’d go with the youngster every single time. He just gets what it means to play for Manchester United. There’s no doubt being a Mancunian (and a Reds fan) helps him in that regard.
One thing that is for certain is that Williams has the backing of the Old Trafford faithful. Man United fans took to Twitter in their droves to express their delight at the 19-year-old’s quality display last night – and rightly so!
