Man United fans were less than impressed with Fred, who dropped a poor outing vs Aston Villa yesterday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils were jolted back down to earth yesterday, losing late to a spirited Aston Villa.

It was a game in which United controlled proceedings, though they never really looked like creating enough decent chances to score a goal. In the end, their lack of quality would come back to haunt them, with Hause grabbing the only goal of the game.

Fixtures like these where teams come to Old Trafford and sit back are dependent on the midfield. It’s up to the United players in there to control the play, keep the ball moving quickly and carve out those chances.

Not one of Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes nor Fred did that. It was the latter who’d struggle in particular.

The Brazilian misplaced way too many tackles, committed himself too early defensively and in large parts, he was nothing but a bystander. The number 17 struggled to have any sort of positive influence on the game – and this wasn’t the first time we’ve said that over the last few years.

He’s one of those guys that are either great or poor. Sadly, there’s no in-between and the lack of quality on the day was probably the main reason why United lost. Surely it’s time to give Donny van de Beek his chance to start with regularity and see what he can do? Surely the Dutchman can’t do any worse…?

As you’d imagine, United fans would express their disappointment all over Twitter, as the midfield star plays super-poorly against Aston Villa yesterday.
