Manchester United Football Club dropped more points in a must-win game, with fans particularly unimpressed with Fred vs WBA.
I’m going to preface this one by stating that I love what Fred does. The Brazilian brings an awful lot to the table, particularly in those big, tight-knit games against the best teams.
However, games like West Brom away just aren’t meant for him. Simply put, Fred isn’t creative enough on the ball to carve out openings when eleven men sit deep.
That was on full display yesterday, and his task was made even harder by WBA’s very early goal. The Brazilian struggles shooting, he can’t fit those tight-knit passes through, nor is he all-that adept at stopping opposing counter attacks.
He’s made for covering every blade of grass for his teammates’ cause. Simply put, that wasn’t needed yesterday.
My biggest gripe is that it took Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so long to realise that Fred wasn’t having an impact on the game, only subbing him off in the 80th minute, leaving Donny van de Beek with very little time to change things.
That’s not to say Fred is a bad player, more a situational one. The sooner United’s coaching staff realise that, the better it’ll be for all involved. He’s undoubtedly a brilliant player to have in this squad, while him reaching 100 appearances for the club in yesterday’s game attests to that. Sadly, it just wasn’t good enough on his part in a game we simply should be winning.
As you’d imagine, United fans were left frustrated with the 27-year-old who struggled pretty badly vs WBA. They took to Twitter in their masses to vent their disappointment…
