Man United booked their place in the Carabao Cup fifth round last night. A 3-0 win and a clean-sheet was great to watch, though it was the performance of Eric Bailly vs Brighton that left fans delighted…
The centre-half has had some real injury woes over the last few seasons. However, it’s easy to forget just how brilliant he was during his debut campaign at Old Trafford.
Pace, power, aggression, tough in the tackle and an excellent reader of the game. Bailly has it all when he’s confident, fit and in the mood.
United’s problem has been keeping him out on the field, hence why they signed Victor Lindelof a few summer’s ago. It’s clear that the Ice Man will forever be inconsistent, thus, opening the door for Bailly to get his chance once again.
Last night against Brighton, Bailly put on a defensive clinic. He was single-handedly stopping counter-attacks due to his speed, winning the aerial duels, barking orders at his teammates and making it hard on Brighton’s forward. It was a joy to watch him work.
As you’d expect, Twitter was full of Reds who were delighted with the 26-year-old’s display against The Seagulls. Rightly so, too!

This is the second start in a row where Bailly has turned on the style. Sure, both were cup games, but against good opposition.
With Jose Mourinho’s Spurs visiting Old Trafford on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is left with a big decision to make.
For me, there’s only one option; star Bailly. He’s earned the chance while Lindelof continues to look nervous. Couple his pace with Harry Maguire’s strength, leadership and aerial ability, you’ve got the makings of a perfect back two…
