United’s form hasn’t been great over the last handful of fixtures, though Raphael Varane has consistently stood tall. Yesterday, we’d learn our Frenchman would be sidelined for a few weeks with a groin problem. Yes, that is the absolute worst news possible.
Varane has taken to our side like a duck to water. The Frenchman has been pure class and the fact that he’s picked up this injury on international duty only compounds to the sour feeling around Old Trafford after this massive blow.
In terms of replacement, Victor Lindelof will now get a good run in the side. Will he be partnered with Harry Maguire? That remains to be seen as the Englishman only returned to light training himself this week. Then, you have Eric Bailly and Phil Jones waiting in the wings. For obvious reasons, that scares me going into games against the best clubs in the division.
As you’d imagine, United fans weren’t best-pleased to learn that the key star is set to miss a crucial run of games for the Reds. This is huge news – and not in a good way either!
