Man United fans react to Sergio Romero links

Man United fans would welcome Sergio Romero back to Old Trafford in a heartbeat.

With Dean Henderson all set to join Nottingham Forest for the year, Manchester United have themselves a backup goalkeeper problem.

Lee Grant has retired, leaving Tom Heaton as the only other option if David de Gea were to pick up an injury. Obviously, it’d be daft going into the campaign with just two senior shot-stoppers on the books.

Earlier today, we covered a pretty big claim from the Manchester Evening News, who suggested that a certain Sergio Romero would be interested in returning to United this summer.

My initial reaction was one of shock, given how the club and the Argentine left on bad terms. I was always disappointed in the way the Reds treated Romero in the end as he’d been such a loyal servant.

Well, it seems as though ties were not completely severed, with Romero still holding a place in his heart for United.

At this point, we must stress there hasn’t been any indication that United have moved for, or even want to entertain the idea of bringing Romero back. After all, there’s a new manager in charge now and who knows where his preference lies for the goalkeeper spot.

From our point of view, this absolutely feels like an avenue worth exploring at the very least. Romero knows the club inside-out and could walk straight back into that starting line-up if required. After all, he never let us down during his time here.

As you’d imagine, United fans took to Twitter by the masses to react to the idea that Romero would love to come back to Old Trafford.

What d’ya say, Sergio? One last dance? I’m all for it!
