James Garner was instrumental for Nottingham Forest during their 1-0 win over Cardiff City.
Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we’ve been banging the James Garner drum for at least a couple of years. Honestly, I already thought he’d be mixing it in Manchester United’s first-team at this point, but the young Englishman needed regular game-time.
After a failed loan move to Watford, Garner would be shipped back out almost immediately, this time to Nottingham Forest. From minute one, Garner would flourish at the heart of their midfield – stringing some quality displays together for The Reds.
Today was just another day at the office for Garner, who was by far the best player on the pitch as Forest beat Cardiff City 1-0. It was Garner’s 29th-minute strike, rounding off a lovely move, that had the away team on their way.
It’s not just the goal, either. Garner does it all. Defensive work, an excellent passer, a quality footballing-brain and impeccable decision-making. This guy has all the makings of a perfect United midfielder for the years to come.
This experience with Forest is doing Garner the world of good. All he needed was that little bit of faith from a manager willing to give him regular starts. Now the 20-year-old is reaping those rewards.
At this point, it’d be a surprise if he’s not with United’s first-team on a permanent basis in the 2021-22 season as it’s the very least Garner deserves.
As you’d imagine, the Man United fans would react in their droves, as the talented loanee put in a brilliant performance. He really was outstanding.
