Nemanja Matic was drafted into the starting XI for the game vs Wolves last night. He’d take that chance brilliantly, leaving us fans massively impressed.
Well, Manchester United would leave it late, but they were the side pressing for the goal in the dying embers. Sure, it was a little lucky. Sometimes, though, you make your own luck.
That result last night was built upon the solid foundations of a firm defence. All our backline played brilliantly, though it was the man in front of them who deserves the most credit.
Nemanja Matic no longer has the legs to start week-in-week-out. When he does play, though, United know they have that reliable old-head who’ll use all of his experience and knowhow to get the job done.
Last night, he was nothing short of sensational. Without the Serbian sat in there, mopping up and doing the dirty work, I genuinely don’t believe we win that game.
He made a couple of important tackles, came up with some vital interceptions, always found a red shirt with the ball at his feet and Matic even carved out a big opportunity. What more can you ask for from your defensive-midfielder?
It’s the best I’ve seen Matic play this season, in a game that suited his style of play perfectly. It just goes to show that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows what he’s doing, too, as he’s rotated and utilised both Matic and Scott McTominay brilliantly from game-to-game.
As you’d imagine, United fans would take to Twitter in their masses to heap the praise on their unsung hero after beating Wolves last night. Matic deserves every single ounce of credit heading his way this morning, too! Well played, Nemanja!
