Man United fans slate Juan Mata for performance vs Colchester

Well, Manchester United booked their place in the Carabao Cup final four last night, though Colchester certainly put up a fight.

Credit where it’s due, our opponents frustrated us for a large majority of that fixture, though when United scored their first you always felt that the floodgates were going to open.

In the end, a lethargic first-half was followed up by a much-improved second 45, though there were still some poor performances on display – most notably from Juan Mata.

Look, everyone loves Mata. He’s a super-nice guy who does an awful lot for people who are in a worse position than himself. However, his footballing ability leaves plenty to be desired these days.

It truly is sad to see. For me, I find that Mata actually hinders us more than helps us. He has no pace and seemingly no longer has that defence-splitting pass that can carve open even the sternest defences.

Last night was more of the same against League Two opposition. He struggled to get anything going which begs the question as to why United handed him a new long-term deal.

Sure, Mata did improve in the second 45, but that didn’t stop United fans taking to Twitter to slate the attacker’s outing vs Colchester. One even went as far as stating that it was his worst ever performance in United colours… What d’ya reckon?
