It’s fair to say Man United fans were not happy with what they saw from Scott McTominay vs Brighton…
Just like that, Manchester United have been jolted back down to earth. The performance from everyone out there in red today just wasn’t up to standard.
Pre-season was good. It already feels like all the positive work done in those friendly matches has been undone. Erik ten Hag must be fuming.
For the supporters, there was one standout low point; Scott McTominay.
The Scotland international looked a yard off it from minute one, struggling to deal with a Brighton midfield who ran rings around the United man.
Time and time again McTominay got caught out of position, while he always seemed to pass it backwards and invite Brighton pressure onto those in United colours.
He was also extremely lucky to remain on the field after a pretty shocking tackle in that first 45 minutes. It’s fair to say it was a pretty dreadful display all-round from United’s number 34.
Again, it just comes back to a lack of options in that midfield area. McTominay didn’t particularly stand out during pre-season, yet he has to be selected because the other options just haven’t been up to scratch either.
The one man I would have liked to have seen is James Garner. Surely, the Englishman cannot do any worse than McTominay?
As you’d expect, the Man United fans were absolutely fuming with the 25-year-old, who one fan deemed the ‘worst player’ he has seen play regularly for the club…
