Donny van de Beek would be handed his first Manchester United start vs Luton Town and my, he’d take that chance excellently.
Although the signing of Donny van de Beek is the only one that United have made, it certainly looks like a smart piece of business.
The Dutchman was brilliant off the bench against Crystal Palace at the weekend, scoring a goal on debut. Last night, he was probably the best player on the pitch on his first start against Luton Town.
His movement, work-rate, energy, passing and awareness was a joy to watch. Van de Beek will get into the box and take shots, he’ll also find pockets of space and look to play the ball into a teammate in a better position than himself.
I honestly thought he’d need a few months to fully settle into life in England, though if the start is anything to go by, we’re in for a serious treat. Sure, Luton are Championship opposition and he’ll face tougher tests, but credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for looking to ease him in, rather than throwing him into the fire.
After that display last night, surely he must be a contender to start this weekend against Brighton? Who do you drop? I’m not sure. Paul Pogba didn’t look his best, but that’d be a big call. I’d possibly start him in alongside the Frenchman, with Bruno Fernandes just ahead of the pair. That’s easier said than done, mind.
For now, I’ll leave you with positivity, as e United fans were delighted with the star performance from the Dutchman versus Luton. Rightly so, too! Anyway, we’ve compiled our favourites below…
