Man United ‘fear’ they won’t be able to sell Harry Maguire

Man United believe they may find it tough to move on from Harry Maguire this summer.

Manchester United are undoubtedly moving in a different direction under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutch manager starting to shape this squad into one that better fits his image.

Some players have moved into the fore; Diogo Dalot and Fred, for instance. Others have taken a backseat, like Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

On the subject of Maguire, we’ve covered recent stories claiming that the Englishman may well be up for sale this summer.

Well, Football Insider have a fresh update on Maguire’s future – and it’s bad news for those that want the Englishman gone…

Apparently, United ‘fear’ they won’t be able to sell their player due to his ‘insane’ wages. That’s despite the fact the player has told the board he would like to leave.

Maguire’s wages are believed to be in excess of £200,000-a-week. His deal doesn’t run down until 2025. It’s going to be tough to convince any buying club to match or improve those wages. Hence, the Reds could be stuck with the 30-year-old.

PSG have been linked with a move for Maguire and unless you can convince them to turn their interest into a concrete offer, I struggle to see any other club willing to give him that amount on a weekly basis.

At this point, all roads seem to steer towards Maguire heading out on loan next season, with the winners of his signature paying a portion of his wages – leaving United to pick up the rest…

This is just another example of United overpaying for a player who hasn’t really justified such high monetary value. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what happens from here on out…
