Manchester United have just two games left. It’s going to take an absolute miracle to finish in the Premier League’s top for, thus securing a Champions League berth for next season in the process.
However, they’ll likely have to do it without Romelu Lukaku. According to ESPN’s sources, United are ‘fearful’ that the 26-year-old will miss the remainder of the season – he’ll be unavailable for both the Huddersfield and Cardiff games.
We’ve seen a real mixed bag from the Belgium international this term, but his season has been stop-start due to various little injury problems. To end the season on the sideline sums up the last twelve months for him.
I do wonder whether we’ve actually seen the last of Lukaku in United colours. It was just earlier in the week when he was flirting with the possibility of a move to the Serie A, while I’m still unsure as to whether he fits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s high-pressing style of play. If the price is right, I wouldn’t be wholly shocked if the club decided to cash in.
There was some better news, however, with Jesse Lingard back in contention to play in the final pair of matches. Hopefully, he’ll be involved as we could certainly use his movement.
