Man United are said to be ready to make their move to sign centre-back Pau Torres.
It seems pretty crystal clear to the majority that Manchester United will move for a defender of some sort this summer.
Be it Raphael Varane, Ben White, Joules Kounde or Pau Torres. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to find the perfect partner for Harry Maguire.
Well, reports from La Razon, translated by Sport Witness, claim that Pau Torres is the guy.
According to the story, United are ‘finally opting’ to move for the 24-year-old, who has a £56m (€65m) release clause in his contract. The article also gives Joules Kounde a mention, though the Frenchman’s asking price is considerably higher, making Torres ‘more affordable’ than his La Liga counterpart.
United are trying to get Torres in a deal worth less than the £56m release clause, which is obviously an option worth exploring. However, Villareal are well within their rights to ignore any bids until that clause is met, at which point they’ll be helpless.
For what it’s worth, I haven’t seen much of Torres so I’m not going to sit here and claim he’s the second coming of Carles Puyol. What I will say is that I trust Solskjaer’s judgement. He’s done some brilliant work in the transfer market and if Torres is the man he wants, United have to go out there and deliver him.
With money likely to be tight due to COVID-19, Solskjaer has to get this one absolutely bang on the money. The absolute last thing United need is another inconsistent defender as that’s one area of the field we’ve had our ups and downs with over the last few years.
