Man United could welcome a couple of first-team regulars back to action in the Southampton game after the international break.
Manchester United’s 2023/24 season was disrupted majorly by injuries. Unfortunately, it looks as if this campaign has gotten off to a similar story.
The Red Devils lost big-money signing Leny Yoro early on in pre-season. He is not expected back until at least November. Tyrell Malacia is another player who has an unknown return date. He has been sidelined for over eighteen months. Mason Mount is done for about a month, while Victor Lindelof is another absentee.
Erik ten Hag is also still without Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw. Interestingly, the Manchester Evening News believe the first-team United duo could make their injury return against Southampton in the Reds’ next game.
The English media outlet have set both of their return dates for the match that takes place in a little under a fortnight.
Hojlund suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season game against Arsenal, ruling him out for an initial six weeks. The Danish striker has been pictured back in individual training recently. He now has plenty of time to recover and start to work with the main group.
Shaw suffered a calf injury during pre-season, after coming back late due to his participation at the European Championships. We’re yet to see him this season, though having a recognised left-back in position will certainly help United’s defensive shape – which has been off at times.
When fully fit, both of these guys come straight into the starting line-up. Although they will need time to get back up to speed, it’d be brilliant to see them in the match-day squad for the Southampton game on September 14th.
