Man United are now actively trying to tie Diogo Dalot down to a new contract.
Over the last few months, there can be no doubt that right-back Diogo Dalot has turned his career around. Not too long ago, the Portugal international was deemed surplus to requirements and available for transfer.
Under Erik ten Hag, the right-back has turned into a key figure. His all-round performances and ability to play well on both sides of the ball have led him to become an undroppable figure in the starting XI. He deserves to be rewarded for that.
Not too long ago, there were whispers about a proposed new deal for Dalot. The player remained ‘hopeful’ about an offer from the club coming his way, as he seemingly is loving life here in Manchester.
Well, we have good news and it comes from freelance journalist, Jacque Talbot.
He took to Twitter to confirm that United are now ‘formally pursuing’ a new contract for the star, as they look to tie Dalot down to an extension.
As things stand, the player is likely to accept, though he does have offers on the table from elsewhere. Barcelona and a few Serie A clubs are showing an interest.

The deal may not be penned imminently, with an idea that Dalot could wait until after the World Cup becoming a real possibility. No doubt the player is looking to earn the most money possible from the Old Trafford club. Obviously, he’s well within his rights to do exactly that.
For United, it’s about getting the deal done sooner rather than later. The club do not want this saga to drag on into the new year, when other sides can potentially make offers to Dalot who would be a free agent.
Eventually, I reckon this contract gets wrapped up. United may have to leave it until January, though we get the feeling Dalot’s not quite finished here in Manchester just yet…
