Man United still intend to make another effort to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

Manchester United made two centre-half signings this summer, with the Red Devils acquiring both Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, though we’re yet to see the former in action.

However, before those two names were linked with an Old Trafford switch, a move to bring in Jarrad Branthwaite was heavily talked up. In the end, a move didn’t happen due to the fact that the Englishman’s asking price remained too high.

However, the long-term keenness on signing the player still remains. According to HITC, United still ‘fully plan’ on moving to bring in the 22-year-old, while the interest in Branthwaite remains ‘concrete’.

Apparently, United are still looking to move on from both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof this summer, with Erik ten Hag seemingly ready to bring in another top quality central defender.

Although it’s stated that United are doing their ‘due diligence’ and looking at other targets, Branthwaite remains the standout candidate.

This would represent another massive chunk of the transfer budget, while there are probably other areas that are still in greater need of addressing. Branthwaite is a top quality player, no doubt about it. However, I wonder if big funds should be allocated elsewhere first.

This is someone who’d likely still cost around the £70m mark even if Everton are relegated this season. Would United even be able to make another big-name signing if they brought in Branthwaite?

No doubt the prospect of having Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite as the four centre-backs is highly appealing to the boss.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
