Dean Henderson’s injury scare will not make him miss the start of the 2021/22 season.
Earlier this week, we sadly learned that Dean Henderson’s European Championships was over before they’d really begun. Sadly, the Manchester United shot-stopper had picked up an injury that limited his participation in training.
Now, we know the extent of the problem and it comes courtesy of the Manchester Evening News. They state that United have been given an injury boost, with the 24-year-old set to be fit for the start of the season despite suffering injury.
Hendo will be good to be involved in United’s pre-season, after suffering a tear in his glute. The MEN understand that his recovery time is between two-to-three weeks, which means he’ll be fit and ready to go when the United squad link up next month.
It goes without saying, this is a vitally important period for Henderson, who is slogging it out with David de Gea to be named the first-choice goalkeeper.
At this point, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just needs to pick his man and stick with it, allowing the other to leave on a permanent transfer this summer. The constant chopping and changing did neither goalie no favours last season and that is arguably the biggest issue that needs fixing before the campaign gets underway.
Personally, I’d go with Henderson. He was brilliant for large portions of the campaign and one bad match against Liverpool shouldn’t change that. Plus, he’d also give us years of service, while De Gea is now the wrong side of 30.
Perhaps the fact that Henderson is now back with United, while De Gea is expected to be with Spain for the foreseeable future, plays into the Englishman’s hands.
