Manchester United Football Club have today been handed a massive boost in regards to keeping David de Gea at Old Trafford in the long-term.
According to the usually reliable ESPN, the Spaniard now favours a United stay, rather than heading to Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain, after accepting that a return to Spain is looking unlikely.
The 28-year-old is under contract until 2020, but is yet to commit his long-term future to United. However, this latest report seems to hint that he is now ready to remain a Red Devil for the foreseeable future.
Firstly, I’d like to point out the timing of this. Is it any real surprise to see this come to light following Jose Mourinho’s sacking?
It leaves me to believe that De Gea just wasn’t happy under the self-proclaimed Special One, and now that he’s gone, perhaps he’s ready to prove that he wants to be here.
Hopefully, other players like Anthony Martial will follow suit and now pen a new long-term United deal. Although don’t be shocked to see some players leave it until the summer as they could wait to find out who the new manager is.
