Manchester United’s squad is suddenly looking in a far better place than it did a month ago, that’s for sure. Players have returned from injury while a couple of important signings have been made. However, there’s still much work ahead.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to further tinker this squad in order to compete at the highest level – with an attacking signing or two still to be made.

Well today, a new name has been thrown into the mixer; Emil Forsberg. The story comes from SportBild’s Wednesday print edition, translated brilliantly by Sport Witness.

They’re claiming that United have been given the chance to sign the 28-year-old RB Leipzig forward in a £16.7m (€20m) deal as the player wants a fresh challenge.

The Sweden international has grown frustrated with life in Germany under Julian Nagelsmann, with the player deciding the Premier League would be a positive step.

United aren’t the only club who have the opportunity to acquire Forsberg, though, with Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester and Everton all offered the attacker.

Looking at his numbers, he hasn’t scored double figures in terms of goals in his five-and-a-half years with Leipzig. That hardly excites. When you factor in he’d only be a squad option at best, and one of the reasons he wants out of Leipzig is due to a lack of playing time, it doesn’t feel like the best fit on paper.

Sure, he’s cheap and no doubt there will be interest in him, perhaps it’s best if United avoid this one and look elsewhere…
