Manchester United have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, according to Italian media outlet Tuttosport, translated by The Sun.
Apparently, Napoli are closing in on a deal to sign Alejandro Grimaldo from SL Benfica, and once that summer deal is complete, then the Red Devils will be free to sign Ghoulam, who’ll be allowed to leave Naples.
The report rates 26-year-old Ghoulam at a huge £54million, with Manchester City also keeping tabs on the man from Algeria, although United is his most likely destination at this point.
This season, Jose Mourinho’s go-to left-back has been Ashley Young, who is doing an excellent job out there, although the Englishman is currently serving a three-game suspension. Another player whos stock is on the rise is Luke Shaw’s, but, for whatever reason, it seems as though the self-proclaimed Special One doesn’t fully trust the youngster.
I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to see a complete overhaul in the full-back positions, because you’ve also got Matteo Darmian who hasn’t covered himself in glory recently. It’s an area which is so vital when it comes to providing width for a team, and when you’ve not got the quality, it can severely hurt your team on both sides of the ball.
