Manchester United have been given a major Mikel Oyarzabal lift.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Premier League hopes suddenly look rather thin. Suddenly, either the FA Cup or Europa League looks like our best chance at lining the trophy cabinet this season.
The issue with cup competitions is the unpredictability. One bad game and you find yourself dumped out, hence why every little detail cannot be overlooked.
Ahead of the start of our Europa League knockout run next week, United have been given a lift. Real Sociedad star, Mikel Oyarzabal, who has an impressive 17 goal contributions this season (12g, 5a), has been ruled out.
That’s according to Goal, who states that the superstar Spaniard is suffering from a serious hamstring issue, which could mean he’s unavailable for up to six weeks.
Outside of Aleksandar Isak and David Silva, Oyarzabal is up there amongst Sociedad’s most important players. With United likely to be without Paul Pogba for these games, this sort of even things up on the injury front I guess…
Real Sociedad still cannot be underestimated
Sociedad have given us trouble in the past before. They’ve only lost one of their last five La Liga games (drawing 3, winning 1). They’re in pretty good shape while dreaming of an upset.
If United play to their capabilities and don’t make any major defensive mistakes, this is an entirely winnable tie. However, our inconsistencies have reared their ugly head on numerous occasions this season. It’s up to the gaffer to ensure that doesn’t happen again.
United were already favourites for this tie but the pendulum has swung even further in their direction now following the latest Oyarzabal news. It’s up to us to press home that advantage.
Surely we’ll progress through into the last sixteen safely, right…?
