In a transfer rumour that is rapidly picking up pace, The Times have given us the latest on Mario Lemina and his proposed Manchester United move.
The English media outlet are claiming that the Red Devils have been given permission by Southampton to speak to the 25-year-old, with the player wanting to leave his current club.
Apparently, Arsenal have also made an inquiry about the man from Gabon, with the expectation that he will ‘soon’ be sold for at least the £18.5million that Southampton paid to sign Lemina from Juventus…
It does seem as though United have stolen a march on Arsenal, though, which is obviously good news for us (assuming us Reds fans actually want Lemina to be signed).
My initial thought on this one was one of shock, but the more you think about it, I feel as though it does make plenty of sense.
Let’s not forget that the Reds have lost both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera over the last six months. They need replacing, and if Lemina is, say, a Fellaini replacement, while United then go out and sign a more offensive-minded player, that’s certainly a step in the right direction…
Lemina isn’t going to cost much. He’ll be feeling hungry while having a point to prove and he’s obviously a talented player, otherwise Juventus wouldn’t have signed him back in 2013.
My only worry is the injury concerns. This United squad is full of players who have constantly been on the treatment table and I’m not sure adding to that list is the wisest decision, but we’ll have to wait and see…
