Man United given lift as Martial injury not as bad as first feared: report

Manchester United have been given some positive Anthony Martial injury news this morning.

As Manchester United stuck another three points on the board on Tuesday night, the game was marred by a couple of injury issues.

First, Anthony Martial. The Frenchman would leave the field grabbing his hamstring, leaving us all sweating in regards to his availability for Liverpool away. Second, Nemanja Matic, who hobbled off the field at full-time.

We’re still unclear in regards to our Serbian midfielder. However, Chris Wheel in the Daily Mail has given us an injury boost on Martial. Apparently, the 25-year-old’s problem is ‘not as bad as first feared’ – and he was spotted moving freely after full-time.

The forward was given Wednesday off and he’ll be assessed at the AON Training Complex this morning. Understandably, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to give the former AS Monaco man every chance to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s showdown clash with Liverpool.

This is massive news for the Baby Faced Assassin, who, touch-wood, has a squad that has been in decent shape all season long.

Although Martial’s on-field struggles have been evident, his talent and natural skill is there for all to see. I don’t doubt that at some point this season, United’s number nine will start finding the back of the net with regularity once again.

Would Martial even start at Anfield anyway?

Well, probably not. Edinson Cavani looks like the way to go here. With Marcus Rashford moving back into a more familiar left-wing role and Mason Greenwood starting on the right.

Having Martial as an option off the bench, though, is massive. I’d much prefer to see him called upon than Daniel James or Juan Mata, for instance.

No doubt we’ll see photos of our lads in training either today or tomorrow, so keep those eyes peeled for Martial in amongst the session. Who knows, we may well get a first glimpse at Amad Diallo, too!
