Man United go in strong for Arturo Vidal, have outbid competition: report

Manchester United have an injury crisis on their hands, with the Red Devils particularly struggling for numbers in midfield. The Old Trafford faithful will be hoping that money is spent in January as it’s seemingly the only way to keep our top four hopes alive.

Today, a familiar name (from a few years ago anyway) has been thrown back into the mix. Yes, Arturo Vidal to United rumours are still alive and kicking…

The story comes from DIRECTV Chile, translated by the ever-brilliant Sport Witness. De Futebol Se Habla Asi, reporter Herman Chanampa states that United have come in ‘strong’ to sign the 32-year-old midfielder (presumably this month).

Furthermore, they’ve already outbid the competition from Inter Milan to secure Vidal’s signature. It’s also worth noting that United’s relationship with the Chilean’s representatives is pretty good, as it’s the same folk who worked on Alexis Sanchez’s move to Old Trafford in January 2018.

For me, this deal feels about five-years too late. What’s damning is that Vidal would still probably be our best central midfielder if he made the move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Right now, I’d take any competent midfielder just to see us through. The problem will be getting Vidal on a short-term deal with a relatively cheap weekly wage.

I have my doubts about the likelihood of this one happening though I wouldn’t be wholly against the idea…
