Man United on loan shot-stopper, Martin Dubravka, has picked up an injury.
Manchester United Football Club made six signings over the summer, all-but-one of which has played serious minutes at the start of the campaign.
The only one we’ve not seen to this point is goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka.
The Slovakian was signed as the transfer window was winding down, in order to provide competition for David de Gea following the departure of Dean Henderson.
After Dubravka was completely absent from the squad for the Sheriff game last week, I did wonder whether the veteran was dealing with an issue.
Now, that injury has been confirmed by the official club website, with the United star now returning from international duty earlier than expected.
The problem area hasn’t actually been revealed by the club, though they do state that his injury will be assessed at Carrington.
At this point, we’re all just left wondering what the actual issue is and the severity of it. It could be a day, a week, or multiple months. I guess we’ll be offered an update by Erik ten Hag during his pre-match press conference next week.
For now, all we can do is hope that it’s nothing serious. If this is a longer-term injury, we’re back at square one and placing all our eggs in the De Gea basket for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
It’s a shame because I actually believe Dubravka has potential to seriously challenge De Gea for that starting job. One thing is absolutely for certain; it’ll be the Spaniard who is in between the sticks against Manchester City in the derby in a little over one weeks’ time.
