Man United sent scouts to watch Jarrad Branthwaite, during his most recent game against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Defensively, Manchester United have not looked like the same outfit this season. Erik ten Hag’s side have been struck by major injury in that third of the field – though those players appear to be on the way back.
However, in the long run, it does appear that new signings will be required. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have both done well in fits and spurts, though it’s no secret that the current Reds boss has tried to move off both of those in the past.
Jarrad Branthwaite has been talked up as a potential option for the Red Devils in recent months with the Everton defender in excellent form at this moment in time.
Now, the Daily Mail have provided a small update on that front. It appears United are still keen on the Englishman, having sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old Premier League defender in action over the weekend.
Although Everton’s game with Aston Villa ended in a bore 0-0 draw, Branthwaite did his job by helping his side keep a clean sheet against a front line that has plenty of quality.
Every time I’ve watched Branthwaite play, I have been impressed. He’s a tough lad, strong in the tackle good aerially and more than adequate with the ball at feet. He also allows the Red Devils to get younger at the position, which is never a bad thing.
The problem here is that Branthwaite will not be cheap. He’s a top-class footballer and I’d be massively surprised if United are the only club interested in signing him. Having Champions League football on offer could prove crucial, so a good second half of the season is an absolute must for the 20-time Premier League champions.
