Man United handed boost in pursuit of brilliant midfielder, wants to finish career in England: report

Manchester United have been handed a boost in any potential pursuit of FC Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic.

That’s according to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol, translated by the Manchester Evening News. They say that the Croatia international intends on finishing his career in England as he looks for one final career challenge.

I’ve always thought that Rakitic’s game has been underappreciated. He had a quietly brilliant season for a title-winning side during 2017/18, and he’s already showing just how good he can be when the lights are at their brightest during the World Cup.

Jose Mourinho was linked with a potential move for the 30-year-old just a couple of months ago and now, it seems that those rumours just aren’t going away.

The report goes on to add that the self-proclaimed Special One is planning a €40m (£36m) move for the veteran, and for my money, that’d represent a brilliant piece of business. In a three, alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, there is some immense potential there for a real dominant midfield; that’s before you throw Fred into the mix.

I guess we’ll have to be patient in regards to this, though. Obviously, Rakitic is out at the World Cup and it doesn’t look like Croatia will be going home anytime soon.
