Man United have been given a potential boost in the chase to sign Xavi Simons from PSG.
Manchester United Football Club made some quality signings over the summer, as Erik ten Hag continues to build a squad that suits his style of play.
There is still much work ahead, with the Dutch manager already having one eye on next summer – and what sort of players he could bring in to strengthen the squad.
One name that was linked with an Old Trafford switch this summer was Xavi Simons, though the PSG attcaking-midfielder only ended up leaving the French club on loan, heading back to RB Leipzig for another year.
Now, Sport Bild, per TEAMtalk, have provided an update in that chase, confirming United have been handed a potential boost in pursuit of the 21-year-old attaching midfielder. The player himself is said to be ‘keen’ on a Premier League transfer.
According to the article, no single Premier League club has been named, though PSG would ask for around £68m to let Simons leave permanently. Hence, he only ended up departing on a short-term deal for the 2024/25 season.
United would not have any potential chase for Simons all their own way. Several top tier teams showed an interest in the Dutchman recently and no doubt they’d renew their interest next summer, too. It would certainly be an advantage if the Red Devils could finish inside the top four this season, giving United the lure of Champions League football.
It also comes down to budget. Dropping close to £70m on one player, who’d likely be forced to play out of position due to Bruno Fernandes’ insane fitness levels, feels like a mistake.
