Manchester United leaked goals for fun last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply has to sign a new centre-half during this window.

Where better to look than the best defender in the world? The insanely good Kalidou Koulibaly…

According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport, translated by Sport Witness, Manchester United have ‘prepared’ a €95m (£84m) bid for the world-class 27-year-old centre-back; although it’s explained it likely won’t be enough.

Sport Witness explain that, in the past, United have seen bids of £90m and £97m already turned down, so why on earth would the club prepare a lower offer than that…?

You do get the impression that Koulibaly isn’t going anywhere this summer unless his hefty £130million release clause is met – and I’m not sure that any club is going to dump that much onto a defender.

Don’t get me wrong, Koulibaly is on another level. He’s a brilliant player who’s turned into a real cult hero at Napoli and he’d improve any side in world football.

Aside from his defensive brilliance, I look at the leadership quality and think he’d be perfect for a Manchester United dressing room that is struggling at the moment.

If I were in charge, I’d probably make the splurge and sign Koulibaly, but then again, it’s not my money…
