Man United are weighing up a move to sign Brighton right-back, Tariq Lamptey.
Ralf Rangnick has now been at the club long enough to identify those players with a genuine chance at making it at the highest level. He’ll also now know that some of the current squad aren’t good enough.
When the summer comes, I’m expecting somewhat of a major overhaul – whoever the new manager may be. With Rangnick staying on in a consultancy role, he’ll have his own part to play in finding our newest signings.
Well, it seems as though the Old Trafford club are liking what they’re seeing from Brighton & Hove Albion at present. Earlier this morning, we covered a story that stated United were interested in their midfielder, Yves Bissouma.
Now, the Daily Mail are linking the Reds with a move for another Seagull; Tariq Lamptey.
It’s claimed that United have a ‘strong interest’ in the 21-year-old right-back, as Rangnick looks to upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot in that area of the pitch.
Lamptey has been identified as someone who can play as a right-back in a back four, or even a wing-back in either a three-at-the-back or five-at-the-back system.
The Old Trafford club value Lamptey at around £30million, though he could eventually cost £40million as Brighton reckon he’s worth closer to that amount.
Lamptey enjoyed a brilliant 2020/21 campaign with Brighton, before injury struck. That issue also derailed his start to the current term – but he’s now getting back to his best.
The ex-Chelsea youth product has gone from strength to strength under Graham Potter, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the Englishman.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Lamptey would be a considerable upgrade on what we have in the right-back slot.
