Man United have agreed a deal to sign Adrien Rabiot

Man United are seemingly closing in on the signature of PSG midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.

The performances from our midfield on Sunday against Brighton can only be described as woeful.

Erik ten Hag will now know the monumental task at hand. The Red Devils had a good pre-season, though suddenly, all that work has been undone.

Today, out of absolutely nowhere, links to Adrien Rabiot began. We covered The Athletic’s take on the potential transfer earlier today.

No less than a few hours later and Sky Sports weighed in on United’s possible move for the Frenchman. And it’s a big update.

They state that United have ‘agreed a deal’ to sign the 27-year-old midfielder. However, there is still plenty of work to be done to finalise the signing.

Personal terms are yet to be negotiated with Rabiot’s agent (and mother) Veronique.

Rabiot joined Juventus in 2019 but has been a bit-part player. He has a winding down contract in Turin, with a deal expiring next summer. Hence, the Old Lady are more than willing to cash in now, rather than lose the midfielder for free next year.

What’s key here is that if Rabiot arrives, the club still haven’t ruled out bringing in Frenkie de Jong as well. The Dutchman is widely regarded as Ten Hag’s top target.

Although Rabiot is a definite upgrade, this smacks of a panic signing. Ten Hag is yet to acquire the midfielder he wants during this window. Now, he’s shopping in the bargain bucket looking for a quick fix.

We’re talking about a player who is immensely talented, though he feels a little bit like a charlatan who is only in it for the money. He will not be afraid to kick up a fuss if things aren’t going his way, leaving his teammates and manager in the lurch. Is that the sort of player United need right now…?
