Man United could make a summer move to bring Memphis Depay back to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag has sealed three Manchester United signings so far this summer, with the Red Devils already looking like an improved side.
However, there’s still much work ahead for the Old Trafford club. Further acquisitions are needed, with United making a real effort to bring in an attacker before the close of play next month.
Antony is the name most linked with a Reds switch, though things have gone pretty stagnant on that front.
Over the last 24 hours, a familiar face has been thrown into the ring; Memphis Depay.
The claim came from journalist Gerard Romero, who spoke about the situation on Twitch. Thanks to The Express for relaying the information.
According to Romero, United have ‘always been interested’ in making a move for the 28-year-old attacker, this summer. On top of that, two Premier League sides have already tabled bids to sign Memphis. Though both have fallen short of the asking price – which currently stands at £17m.
Depay is on the list of players that FC Barcelona are looking to sell this summer, in an effort to ease their financial woes.
As we all know, Memphis struggled massively during his time at United in between 2015 and 2017. The Dutchman came to Manchester with huge promise, though under Louis van Gaal, he just wasn’t good enough.
Now Memphis is older and wiser. He looked great at Lyon, while he was pretty good for Barca last season, too.
In the Ten Hag system, Memphis has the potential to flourish and silence those doubters that came out of the woodwork when the attacker struggled in the Premier League.
It would be a gamble, though the low asking price makes Memphis an excellent alternative to the aforementioned Antony.
