Man United have clear run at Maguire, will cost £85m hard cash: report

Manchester United need to sign at least one new centre-half this summer. The name that keeps appearing on the back pages is that of Harry Maguire.

Well late on Saturday night, The Sun provided us with an exclusive on the future of Maguire – and it spells good news for the Red Devils, well, sort of…

Apparently, United will have a ‘clear run’ at the 26-year-old Maguire, as Manchester City pull out of the race to sign the one they call ‘Slabhead’.

There is one caveat, though, Leicester have ‘no intention’ of letting Maguire go anywhere – unless United stump up £85million in hard cash.

Apparently, Leicester turned down an earlier offer of £70million plus Marcos Rojo, but the Foxes aren’t interested in make-weight cast-offs, which definitely makes sense from their point of view.


For what it’s worth, and I feel as though I’m in the minority here, but I’d offer up the £85million and get the deal done. Maguire is an excellent centre-half who is miles better than what we already have. I know it’s a lot of money but I genuinely do believe he’d have a similar impact to that of Virgil van Dijk when the Dutchman moved to Liverpool.

It seems blatantly obvious (to me anyway), that despite United sniffing around other players, Maguire is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one choice. Why not give him what he wants and in turn, give United the best chance at success going into this campaign? Plus, if anyone can afford it, United can…
