Man United are ready to try and tie Diogo Dalot down to a new long-term contract.
Manchester United Football Club return in a week-and-a-half, with Erik ten Hag’s men now gearing up for the return of domestic football.
One man who had been an integral part of first-team plans in the first portion of the season is Diogo Dalot. However, the right-back picked up a hamstring injury as Portugal were beaten by Morocco on Saturday. The severity of which is not yet known.
That isn’t stopping United from trying to tie Dalot down to a new deal, though. His current terms expire next summer, though the club hold the option to extend that by a further twelve months.
Now, Fabrizio Romano. States that United have ‘decided to push’ on a new contract for the 23-year-old. The club obviously wants him to stay, with a meeting ‘expected’ after the World Cup.
The plan of attack is to tie Dalot down to a new long-term contract, let Aaron Wan-Bissaka go and bring in a new back-up right-back at some point next year – hopefully, in January if Wan-Bissaka does leave in the mid-season window.
Dalot deserves all the plaudits coming his way. I genuinely thought his time at United was all-but-over about a year ago. He’s turned it around in quite remarkable fashion. Looking like a star for both club and country.
United will absolutely struggle without him if that hamstring injury is anything more serious than a couple of weeks. That’s genuinely the biggest compliment I can pay Dalot at this moment in time.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t serious and the club tie Dalot down to a new United contract sooner rather than later.
