Man United are in the hunt for a centre-back, with Pau Torres’ name now on the agenda.
It’s now well known that Manchester United are looking to find the perfect partner for Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence. Eric Bailly is always injured, Victor Lindelof is consistently inconsistent while Axel Tuanzebe just doesn’t feel ready.
Although a short update, it feels like an important one. Apparently, United have ‘got in touch’ with the 24-year-old’s camp about a potential transfer, following some impressive performances from the young Spaniard.
United aren’t the only ones interested, with Liverpool also keen. The article actually centres around Real Madrid interest in Torres, with the centre-back currently having a £55.5m (€65m) release clause.
Check out AS’ update from earlier today:
Torres’ improvement is there for all to see. So-much-so that he’s now a part of the Spain squad ahead of the summer’s European Championships. No doubt they’ll be many keen onlookers during the international tournament – where his price will only increase.
If United are that keen on Torres, the time to strike is now. Go out there, get a deal done early, get your man at a cheaper price and feel supremely happy about your man going into the 2021/22 term.
Is Torres that man? That question remains unanswered, but he’s surely worth the gamble given the inconsistencies we’ve seen from our current crop of centre-backs. We certainly need an upgrade or two in that area if we’re going to win league titles, that’s for sure…
