Man United have inquired about Ronald Araujo, remains ‘on the list’ for summer transfer

Man United have asked about the availability of Ronald Araujo.

The feeling I’m getting this morning is that Manchester United are intent on adding a new defender to the squad this summer. Earlier today, we covered a claim from Florian Plettenberg, who links the Old Trafford side with a move to bring in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

Well, Plettenberg is back at it again, claiming the 20-time Premier League champions have eyes on another centre-half, in the form of Ronald Araujo.

According to his latest information, United ‘have inquired’ about the 24-year-old’s availability, having asked to be kept informed about a potential transfer fee and possible contract details.

On top of that, the centre-back remains ‘on the list’ for the Reds’ summer transfer window, though Bayern Munich are also keen and Thomas Tuchel is said to ‘love’ the player.

The man from Uruguay would be a direct upgrade on the Reds’ current options in that position. He plays like a typical South American defender, full of aggression and tenacity. With that in mind, I do wonder whether he’d be the right partner for Lisandro Martinez as they’re two very similar footballers.

Again, it feels clear that despite their up-turn in form, the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane could all find themselves on the chopping block when the summer rolls around.

I’d assume that any potential move to bring in a centre-back is wholly dependent on one leaving first as the Reds are already paying massive money in that area of the field and they’d need to clear some wage spaces before bringing in another expensive defender.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Ronald Araujo would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
