Man United have ‘intensified contact’ for the signing of defender Jeremie Frimpong

Man United have seemingly firmed up their interest in Jeremie Frimpong, with stronger talks for his signing now taking place.

Manchester United’s squad is going to look very different at the start of next season. The Old Trafford club may have to sell before they can buy marquee names, hence, I am expecting a mass overhaul to take place somewhat early on in the transfer window.

Among the biggest needs is some new defenders. Let’s be honest, the issues in that area have been present ever since day one this season. We’ve barely had a natural left-back fit at all, which is affecting the right-hand side of defence as a result. Centre-half has also been a similar story, with Lisandro Martinez constantly at the treatment table.

The rumours to players in that field are now growing in frequency. The latest name linked (again) with a United switch is Jeremie Frimpong. The right-back was heavily mentioned with a move to United by the papers last summer and it seems Erik ten Hag isn’t giving up in pursuing the Dutchman.

It’s SportBILD via Sport Witness with the information. According to their latest sources, United have ‘intensified contact’ for the signing of the talented full-back, who has 20 goals and 20 assists in 76 games under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

Frimpong is a vital cog in a Leverkusen side that have blitzed the Bundesliga this term. They’re also progressing nicely in the Europa League and have a German cup final to look forward to.

Interest in Frimpong is growing rapidly, with the Premier League now deemed a possible destination for the 23-year-old.

Although a firm transfer decision hasn’t been made by any of the sides interested in Frimpong, United will have to act somewhat quickly due to a release clause that comes into effect this summer. It’s said to be worth around the £34m (40m euro) mark, but that clause expires before the start of EURO 2024.

Frimpong would be a class signing, though it would probably mean the end for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Jeremie Frimpong would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
