Man United have Jesse Lingard transfer decision to make, despite fact he ‘loves the club’

Manchester United are set for a big summer, though a prospective Jesse Lingard transfer away from Old Trafford remains a real possibility.

It’s fair to say we haven’t seen anything close to Lingard’s best, though in the last few games, he has definitely looked like he’s performing better. Is it too far gone, though?

Well, it certainly is for ex-Red Paul Scholes, who says that Lingard shouldn’t be starting regularly for a side with title aspirations. The fact that the Warrington-born-winger also hired Mino Raiola as an agent tells me that he’s plotting for life after Old Trafford.

Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth has been speaking out on the situation this morning, and he says United have a transfer ‘decision’ to be made about the 27-year-old… That’s despite the fact he ‘loves’ the club, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Englishman to stay…

As always, it comes down to playing time. As Sheth says, Lingard has barely made the squad recently, nevermind the starting line-up. I guess it comes down to what Lingard wants.

“As for Jesse Lingard, like Pogba he’s got a year left on his contract, another option of 12 months as well,” explained Sheth on Sky Sports News.

“Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Lingard to stay, Lingard loves United, but he can’t be given assurances on first-team football.

“He’s not in the first XI at the moment and very rarely makes the bench it has to be said. He’s unlikely to get those reassurances of playing time in the future.

“So decisions have to be made for Lingard, and indeed Pogba, but they will be made once United have a better idea of potential arrivals.”

What does the future hold?

If he’s after week-in-week-out starts, then a move away is inevitable. However, if Lingard believes in himself enough to get back to his best, I genuinely hope he sticks around.

There’s nothing better than watching homegrown talent perform at the highest level. Lingard is a Red through and through. He’d have to accept his role as a bit-part player, though.

I guess we’ll know more when signings are made. If Jadon Sancho comes through the door, Lingard’s minutes would only decrease further. If a deal can’t be reached to sign the Borussia Dortmund star, Lingard may be tempted to stick around. It’s all fine margins at this point, while it goes without saying, it’s a massive decision for the United academy graduate.

There was some better news from Sky in regards to Paul Pogba, who is expecting contract talks with United to commence after the Europa League finishes.
