Man United have made an offer to sign Kevin Trapp

Man United are making a play to sign Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper, Kevin Trapp.

David de Gea’s form to start the 2022/23 campaign has been pretty embarrassing. The Spaniard has typically struggled with the ball at his feet, while when it comes to shot-stopping, the Red Devils number one has been uncharacteristically poor.

With Dean Henderson away on loan and Erik ten Hag seemingly not fancying Tom Heaton as a number two, the need to acquire a new shot-stopper is there for all to see.

Several names have been linked, including Yan Sommer. However, today’s claim suggests the Old Trafford club are targeting another Bundesliga goalie; Kevin Trapp.

It’s Bild in Germany with the claim. Thanks to Sport Witness for the translation. They say that the Reds ‘want to sign’ Trapp this summer, who currently plies his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt.

It’s written that United have ‘already made an offer’ to sign the 32-year-old, though it’s ‘unclear’ as to whether Eintracht Frankfurt will accept the bid.

Trapp would come with plenty of experience, having played in both the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. He also fits the Ten Hag system far better than De Gea does.

At this point, I’d take any competent goalkeeper in order to challenge for De Gea’s spot. At the very least, it’d make the Spaniard work that little bit harder for his position.

When looking at back-up goalkeepers, you don’t want to spend too much money. Trapp is someone who would probably command a semi-decent transfer fee because he’s a valuable asset to Eintracht Frankfurt. I guess it depends how much belief Ten Hag has in the German being able to make that number one spot his own.
