Man United are seemingly near the front of the queue to sign talented teenager, Assan Ouedraogo.
I’ve always believed that Manchester United should stay away from signing ready-made, big-money signings. It’s rare that these sort of transfers work out for the Red Devils, probably due to the instant pressure that these players face when moving to Old Trafford.
Instead, the Reds should stick with what they know; signing and developing youth. With money thought to be tight at the Theatre of Dreams this summer, the club’s hand may well be forced in that regard.
The latest young player to be linked with a potential switch to Salford Quays is Assan Ouedraogo, who currently plies his trade for Schalke in the Bundesliga.
It’s Bild with the story, as Sport Witness translate their information. According to the claim, United are said to have made contact over signing the talented 18-year-old midfielder, while a fee of around £8.5m has been quoted for the Reds.
United are not alone in the chase, with Liverpool also said to be in touch about signing Ouedraogo.
A midfielder by trade, Ouedraogo made his first-team breakthrough last season, playing seventeen times for the 2. Bundesliga club, scoring three goals in those matches.
United and Liverpool are said to have ‘made specific enquires’ about Ouedraogo, which leads us to believe that the keenness on signing the teenager is definitely genuine.
Due to the sheer talent of the young man, I’d not be surprised if other clubs start showing an interest in bringing in the German this summer, particularly if they get wind of a potential move away from Schalke for Ouedraogo.
Yes, he’s not the ready-made product and he would absolutely need time to adjust and adapt to Premier League football, but there’s very little risk involved in this move, but plenty of upside. It just makes sense.
