It seems as though Ajax centre-back, Jurrien Timber, is both Man United and Erik ten Hag’s number one option in the defensive area of the field.
We’re still very early in the summer transfer window, in fact, it’s yet officially open. However, Manchester United continue to be linked with every name under the sun…
One man who remains firmly in the headlines is Jurrien Timber. After all, it’s a pretty easy link to make given the Dutchman played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax last season.
The latest information on this brewing saga comes from the Manchester Evening News. They state that United ‘have prioritised’ a move for the emerging defender as their defensive target.
On top of that, the 20-year-old is Ten Hag’s ‘preferred choice’ for a signing in that area of the field. However, a back-up plan is being made, with Braga’s David Carmo viewed as a fallback option. The club have already held two rounds of talks with his representatives.
What United seem to like about Timber is the fact that he can also play as a right-back if needed, though at Ajax during this breakthrough campaign, he was predominantly deployed as a centre-half.
I like the fact that United aren’t limiting themselves to just one option because there are no such things as guarantees in the footballing transfer market. Carmo, who was close to a Liverpool move not too long ago, would also represent a smart piece of business. He recently received his first Portugal call-up.
Timber understandably remains the number one option due to his familiarity with the Ten Hag system, but even the 20-year-old comes with some risk. After all, he’s never played in the Premier League and the young man would probably need some time to adapt.
