Man United are keen on signing Declan Rice – though they’re not currently favourites.

Manchester United have many pretty glaring needs going into the summer transfer window. Erik ten Hag will be somewhat concerned as the club’s current ownership status remains up in the air.

Alas, whoever is in charge, will have to spend big in order to allow the Dutch manager to continue doing the fantastic job he has done so far.

Several names have already been linked with an Old Trafford move. You get the impression that a midfielder of some description is amongst the top needs.

Today, Sky Sports have ran a story on Declan Rice’s future. The West Ham man absolutely bossed United’s midfield on Sunday night, reaffirming the belief that he is an elite-level player.

Apparently, United have ‘shown an interest’ in signing the top-class 24-year-old, along with Chelsea and Liverpool. Right now, though, it’s Arsenal who are seemingly the favourites to sign Rice.

In terms of transfer fee, West Ham want £120m from a Champions League club in order to let Rice leave. They’d also consider selling Rice for around £100m cash, plus a player who’d improve their squad.

This is the time. Rice has one year left on his current deal at West Ham, while it doesn’t look like he’ll be signing new terms anytime soon.

For Rice, any move would be a lucrative one. He currently fetches home £70,000-a-week, while any transfer would likely see him earn three times that amount.

Rice is valued so highly as West Ham believe he’s one of the best players in the world with a fantastic injury record.

For United, this would be an unreal signing, though I do worry that spending £100m+ on one player would limit their spend in other areas of the field. Right now, I’d be surprised if this deal happens.
