Manchester United’s goal has been pretty clear; make the squad younger, while clearing out the dead-wood.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a stellar job at that, moving the Red Devils in the right direction in the process. However, there is still much work to do while further signings are needed.

It’s easy to forget that the Old Trafford club lost both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini over a six-month period. Only one has been replaced, thus leaving United with a void in midfield. Enter, Florentino Luis.

Yes, that is a completely new name being linked with a United switch… The story comes from ESPN‘s Insider Notebook, who state that United have placed the classy 20-year-old defensive midfielder on their transfer radar.

Apparently, the one known as ‘The Octopus’ is attracting attention from top European clubs. The only side (other than United) named is AC Milan.

With Nemanja Matic ageing and Scott McTominay more of a box-to-box player than an outright defensive midfielder, this move makes sense.

United usually do pretty well when it comes to buying from Portugal, while Luis is enjoying a breakthrough campaign with Benfica.

In terms of fee, no price-tag is mentioned but you’d imagine he wouldn’t be overwhelmingly expensive given his lack of elite-level experience and only recently breaking through.

Again, Solskjaer is trying to keep the squad young, which definitely makes plenty of sense…
