Man United have ‘strong interest’ in Kalvin Phillips

Man United remain keen on Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips. Though they face an uphill battle to sign the Englishman.

Erik ten Hag’s rebuild is yet to really begin. No signings have been made, which is rather worrying given the sides around us are making positive acquisitions.

The Old Trafford club continue to be linked with what feels like every single name under the sun, without any incoming transfers looking imminent.

Midfield is amongst the areas of most concern, with plenty of stories claiming the Reds will make a move for a midfielder. Amongst those who have been rumoured to be on United’s list is Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips’ name is back in the headlines again, with the story coming from Football Insider.

Apparently, the Red Devils are amongst many sides who hold a ‘strong interest’ in the 26-year-old midfielder. However, acquiring the England international may well be tough.

FI claim that Phillips ‘wants to quit’ Leeds United this summer, though as things stand, Manchester City are leading the charge. The current league champions are working on ‘luring’ the player to the Etihad this summer, with Phillips himself keen on a move.

It’s thought that around £50m should be enough to secure Phillips’ signature, with Pep Guardiola a big fan of the Englishman’s.

This one was always going to be tough for United. The lack of Champions League football on the table, coupled with Leeds’ fierce rivalry with United made it nigh-on impossible to bring Phillips to Old Trafford. Factor in City’s interest and this saga was over before it really began.

It’s disappointing because Phillips would have represented a shrewd signing for United – who desperately need help in that defensive midfield spot.
