Man United have presented an offer to PSV Eindhoven for Cody Gakpo on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag’s squad is slowly starting to take shape. No doubt the Manchester United manager is frustrated with the current business conducted by the club – but that’s the situation he finds himself in.
The Dutchman is pushing hard behind the scenes in order to get transfers done ahead of the deadline shutting next Thursday.
One man the club have been tentatively pursuing is PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo.
Over the last 24 hours or so, the latest information on that front comes from Football Insider. They say United have made a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ offer for the 23-year-old on Thursday.
That bid is supposed to be worth £25million, while this deal isn’t in direct correlation with a move for Antony – hinting that o both players could possibly be added.
Ten Hag has apparently given the ‘green light’ for this offer to be made to PSV, with Gakpo in great form to start the campaign. He has three goals and four assists in seven matches.
Gakpo is under contract until 2026. He was also named Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2021/22.
United’s move for Gakpo is now looking more promising due to the fact that PSV have now been eliminated from the Champions League. The Dutch club now longer have that edge over the Old Trafford club in that regard.
Gakpo is someone who feels a little rough around the edges. He’s someone who perhaps isn’t ready to start week-in-week-out at United if he does make the move. However, you get the feeling Gakpo is being targeted for depth. He could dip in and out of the line-up for Europa League matches and other cup games, for instance.
