Manchester United Football Club signed Odion Ighalo on a short-term deal back in January, though the likelihood that the Nigerian is the long-term solution is sim-to-none.

When the summer rolls around, the Old Trafford outfit will once again have to address that problem; enter Timo Werner.

In an article based on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp going head-to-head in the transfer market, The Express state that United have the prolific 23-year-old Werner ‘under consideration behind the scenes’. Though obviously our Merseyside rivals offer pretty big competition.

The story from The Express also adds that United and Liverpool could go head-to-head in regards to the signings of both Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, too. Though today we’d like to focus on Werner as we’ve covered both Sancho and Bellingham rumours pretty extensively in the past…

Werner has been in imperious form this term, scoring 21 goals in just 24 appearances for RB Leipzig in the league.

The problem right now is that Werner apparently ‘favours a move to Merseyside’. Heck, who can blame him, they’re romping their way to the title, while competing at the business end in the Champions League, too.

I guess the one thing United have in their favour is that they can guarantee Werner playing time, whereas at Anfield, he’d be competing with Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane… You can bet your bottom dollar the Old Trafford club would also offer him a bigger wage packet, too.

It all comes down to what Werner wants but make no mistake about it, this United team is heading in the right direction.
