Man United having ‘real’ and ‘confirmed’ contacts with Roberto de Zerbi over manager’s job

Man United are holding genuine contacts with Roberto de Zerbi, over potentially taking charge at Old Trafford.

I genuinely believe that Manchester United are yet to make their mind up in regard to their manager. It feels like a coin toss as to whether Erik ten Hag will get the sack or not.

Don’t forget that Ten Hag wasn’t an INEOS hire. That could make it easier for the powers that be to relieve him of his duties. Whether they have a firm name in mind to replace the Dutchman still remains to be seen.

It feels somewhat clear that Roberto de Zerbi is certainly a possibility. The Italian unexpectedly left Brighton at the end of the season, meaning he is ready and available for a new position…

Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has provided an update on the situation. He took to Twitter to confirm that United are having ‘real’ and ‘confirmed’ contacts with the Italian boss, over his possible appointment.

Pedulla stresses that no final decision has been made, though De Zerbi is ‘very popular’ on a list with two or three names. First, though, a firm choice has to be made in regard to Ten Hag.

I’d personally view this as a sideways step. In any event, I’d probably be slightly in favour of keeping Ten Hag after the cup final result.

De Zerbi hasn’t managed a ‘big’ club to date. It’s an entirely different situation for the manager, though I guess there’s only one way to find out whether he can handle the pressure.

In terms of style of play, this is where De Zerbi should be a match made in heaven for the Old Trafford club. He loves to play a possession-based game, with high intensity. The Italian is also excellent at finding those hidden gems in the transfer market, which could be useful given the fact that money is tight at the moment.
