Man United hold a ‘very serious interest’ in Jean Clair Todibo, £40m price-tag

Man United are very keen on adding Jean Clair-Todibo to their ranks this summer.

Manchester United are going through a period of major change. The Old Trafford club now have new owners in charge of footballing operations, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to make a positive impression on the club he supported as a young boy.

Signings are needed all over the field. With a budget that is expected to be tight due to FFP and Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules, it’s up to United to spend their cash wisely.

One area of the field that needs immediate work is defence. Injuries galore haven’t helped stability in that position, with a signing needed, preferably someone who can consistently start games.

Enter, Jean-Clair Todibo.

It’s TEAMtalk with the report. They claim United hold ‘very very serious interest’ in signing the 24-year-old Nice defender.

Apparently, there has already been numerous talks between the two clubs, with those discussions described as ‘really positive and exciting’, though the Reds will likely face stiff competition to sign the French-born defender.

With a budget of around £150m available at Erik ten Hag’s disposal, a £40m move for Todibo feels much more astute than spending closer to £80m to bring in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. There’s certainly more risk involved in moving for the Nice man, but possibly also more reward.

Sir Jim will know Todibo well as he currently still owns Nice as well as Manchester United, while you’d like to think the relationship between the two clubs could swing this transfer in our favour due to mutual ownership.

Hopefully, this deal happens early in the window, leaving United with ample time to identify and sign other targets as well.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. With so many ageing, under performing and overpaid “stars”, United need a major overhaul.
Varane, Maguire, Lindelof and Evans are all surely looking to be moved on. Adarabioyo, Todibo, Inacio and Branthwaite are all possible replacements, although United need to stay true to their history of utilising the youth ranks.
Casemiro and Eriksen are likely to depart and with Mainoo looking more of a playmaker instead of a playbreaker, at least one solid defensive midfielder is required.
If ten Hag stays, there will be no return for Jadon Sancho. Antony has also failed to impress, although ten Hag continues to give him chances over Amad Diallo.
Rashford played really well for one season, got a bumper contract and now plays like a Sunday League player – that happened before under Mourinho, when will we learn. Garnacho is a natural replacement, and sell Rashford.
Good bye Martial, and if Greenwood does not return due to fan pressure, a centre forward will be required.
Talk is also of a suitable left and right wing back requirement, but these areas are not as desperate as the afore mentioned areas. Left wingback is more likely, as Shaw continues his unfortunate injury hit career and Malacia seems to have inherited his mis-fortune.
